Ranking the Leotards - SEC Championships

For starters, a massive congratulations to the University of Alabama for winning their tenth conference title. They're proving, with basketball, that Alabama is more than a football school and it's something I admire. This meet was a nail-biter between these historic programs, and I hated not getting to see Georgia compete. But coming up on the end of the season, let's break down the leotards once again.

(All photos c/o the respective schools' Athletic Department)

1. Florida (3rd, 196.975)

While similar to the Gators' Week 5 leos, these were classic and incorporated all the elements I love to boost them to my top spot. The stoning was so intricate and featured blue, white, and orange in a detailed gradient. Higher neckline, beautiful open back, these were exactly what I expected from the Gators in the conference finale.

2. LSU (2nd, 197.775)

Breaking News: new LSU leotard! The Tigers capitalized on the love of the Stick Crown and created this crown leotard that was done so well. The meshy detailing on the sleeves and bodice didn't do it for me and distracted from the hundreds of beautifully placed stones. Glad to see a return to the classic purple, but hoping for even more new during NCAAs.

3. Auburn (5th, 196.275)

The Rocket Leotard to make a splash in Rocket City. Auburn stayed in the bottom of my lists early this season, but showing off their navy with orange details has been a huge improvement. The pattern was unique in those orange details and the asymmetry of the sleeves was a choice we haven't seen from many other teams.

4. Kentucky (4th, 196.825)

These are a repeat for the Cats, but I liked them a lot more this time around. The pattern choice for the stoning is elegant and the Wildcat logo at the hip is strong. Ombre works well on the sleeves, but adding in the white is too much.

5. Arkansas (7th, 195.600)

The previews of this leotard that were shared on Arkansas' social channels initially turned me off, but after seeing the full body I like them a lot more. Screen-printing the lace design is a good choice, especially after the true lace panel last week, and complimented the stoning and high neck. These just aren't my favorite compared to what else we've seen from the Razorbacks this season.

6. Alabama (1st, 197.875)

There is a lot here. Different shades of Crimson, stoning that wasn't cohesive, and a geometric design that I liked but just didn't have that wow factor both they and other conference schools have shown. Alabama has plenty more leotards to show this season, and after this win they will definitely get to share them with fans.

7. Missouri (6th, 196.125)

We're seeing this geometric number for a third time this season, and while they're a strong one for the Tigers I was still underwhelmed. Even putting the colors aside, this design is just too bulky and angular for a sport that, while so strong, is about artistry and movement. I'm still a fan of the grey sleeves and the M stoning, but these are my least favorite of the weekend.

The fun's not over with all 8 teams qualifying for NCAA Regionals, and I can't wait to follow them and other teams on the road to Fort Worth.
